Quality starts with the specification

Fibre, yarn and fabric construction all contribute to textile performance. Yarn size, strength, twist and evenness are among the relevant factors. A quality conversation therefore starts with what was agreed, rather than with a broad claim that a fabric is high quality.

Look beyond first appearance

Testing can examine colourfastness, dimensional stability and changes such as pilling or distortion after laundering. The relevant checks depend on use. A fabric for a washable garment and a fabric exposed to strong light may need different priorities in their test plans.

Make acceptance reviewable

Before ordering, agree the required tests, acceptance criteria and reporting format. Ask for results that identify the tested sample and method. Keep the approved swatch, order specification and batch details together. This gives both sides a practical reference if a delivery needs to be reviewed.
